Headquartered in Zurich, with offices in Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C., ABB Technology Ventures (ATV) invests in companies of strategic interest to ABB at all stages and in all parts of the world. ATV invests in high potential energy technology companies that improve performance while lowering environmental impact and which can benefit from ABB's technology development resources and global market access. ATV has made venture investments in numerous energy infrastructure and emerging cleantech sectors: smart grid, cyber security, wind power, ocean power, EV charging, and data center power supply and efficiency. Historically investments have ranged from $1-$20 million and most often ATV's investment is not the first institutional money. The group anticipates investing in 4-6 new companies per year with approximately half of those located in North America. The ABB group currently manages around 4,780 active patent families and about 19,890 active patent applications. With a history of excellence stretching back more than 130 years, ABB’s success is driven by about 105,000 talented employees in over 100 countries.
