Founded in 1972, Adams Street has made over 265 direct investments with experienced management teams focused on high-growth markets. Investments are made primarily in venture-backed companies in the technology, life sciences and technology-enabled services sectors. Adams Street Direct Team invests in companies seeking $5-20 million in early-to later-stage venture capital or growth equity. Adams Street Partners' Direct Team also co-invests $10-30 million in leveraged buyout and growth equity transactions being led by other general partner groups. Adams Street is also recognized as the oldest fund of funds provider in the industry (1979), annually committing over $1 billion to general partners in venture capital, private equity, leveraged buyouts, distressed, mezzanine and special situations. The firm has active relationships with over 255 general partner groups and currently serves on over 100 advisory boards worldwide. Over a three to four-year period, the U.S. fund of funds strategy typically invests in 60-75 total funds that invest a substantial portion of their assets in North American companies. Adams Street was also a pioneer in the development of the private equity secondary market, investing in secondaries in 1986 and raising its first dedicated secondary fund in 1988. Since that time, the firm has closed over 140 secondary transactions and now has over $3.6 billion in secondary assets under management. Adams Street manages over $51 billion in assets for more than 490 institutional investors.
