As an on-going initiative of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and funded by the Ben Franklin Technology Development Authority, the Program invests not only in the marketable innovations developed in our service area - many of which come to light from our annual BIG IDEA Contests - but also in business mentoring and support initiatives such as our Transformation Business Services Network and the BF TechCelerator Business Startup Boot Camps. The Mercer County Innovation Fund (MCIF) is a partnership between Penn-Northwest Development Corporation and Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern PA to provide funding to tech-based start-ups and small, existing manufacturers located in Mercer County that are in the process of developing a new product or process. Other local partners that have helped contribute to this fund include Shenango Valley Enterprise Zone, Community Hope Investment Partnership Group, Greenville Area Economic Development Corp., and the City of Hermitage. Ben Franklin's TechCelerator offers local entrepreneurs, grad students, professors, and university researchers a 10-week business boot camp to help take the first step in launching a startup.
