The Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeast Pennsylvania (BFTP/NEP) is part of a state-funded economic development initiative created in 1983. The program links early-stage technology firms and established manufacturers with funding, people, technology, universities and other resources to help them prosper. BFTP/NEP serves 21 counties. The group's Enterprise Developers work with early stage firms and established companies to enhance their entire way of doing business. Typical investments range from $30,000 to $100,000 for each tranche, with a maximum total investment over several years reaching $300,000 to $400,000. BFTP/NEP is located on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem and has regional offices in Lewisburg, Reading and Wilkes-Barre. The group operates the Ben Franklin TechVentures, a high-tech workspace and community for early-stage companies born out of the former Bethlehem Steel Homer Research Labs.
