Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP) was established in 1982 to stimulate economic growth through innovation, entrepreneurship and the development and adoption of new technologies. BFTP/SEP is part of a statewide network supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and has provided more than $165 million to grow more than 1,750 regional enterprises. The firm's investments are made from three different funds that address specific stages of development. The Innovation Fund provides up to $100K for prototype refinement and/or very early commercialization efforts. The Emerging Fund invests up to $750K over multiple funding rounds for product or process development, and/or commercialization efforts. The Technology Commercialization Fund provides up to to $50K for select university and research institution spin-out companies. BFTP/SEP is the commercialization partner for the Greater Philadelphia Innovation Cluster (GPIC) national energy hub, and the founding partner of the Energy Commercialization Institute (ECI). BFTP/SEP is the founding partner of The Nanotechnology Institute (NTI), Emerald Stage2 Venture Fund (see profile), and numerous other programs and initiatives. The firm has produced more than $5.1B in regional economic impact.
