An independent, not-for-profit economic development organization, Ben Franklin Technology Partners (BFTP) has worked (since its inception in 1983) to diversify and strengthen Pennsylvania's economy by focusing on entrepreneurial development and technological innovation. The organization provides both early-stage and established companies with funding, business and technical expertise and access to a network of innovative, expert resources. The organization aims to promote technology innovation in such diverse areas as alternative and clean energy, information technology, powder metals, plastics, nanotechnology, life sciences, optoelectronics, micro-electronics, robotics, advanced manufacturing, environmental technology and many more. BFTP operates four regional centers to deliver its services: Innovation Works for the Southwest, BFTP Central and Northern, BFTP of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and BFTP Northeastern (see profiles).
