BioStar Capital is a venture capital partnership formed in 2003 by physicians and medical business leaders to invest primarily in early-stage medical devices. BioStar prefers to invest in the cardiovascular, orthopedic, neuroscience, and gastroenterology clinical specialties, but the partners are also interested in looking at biomaterials and how they can be used in any type of clinical area. If appropriate, BioStar will serve as lead investor but will participate in follow on investments as well. The firm's initial investment in a company ranges from $250K - $3 million, depending on the technology and stage of a company's development. BioStar intends to support portfolio companies in their follow-on financing rounds through time of exit. Accordingly, BioStar invests between $2-$6 million over the life of an investment. BioStar invests in companies throughout the United States and Israel. BioStar announced (December 2023) it has closed its fifth fund at $130.3 million.
