Bridgeway Capital, formerly named CL Fund, is an economic development lender providing much-needed capital and technical assistance to increase employment and expand economic opportunity in the 15 counties of Western Pennsylvania. Begun in 1990 as a housing and social service lender, Bridgeway Capital broadened its economic impact on the region by adding small business lending in 1994. In 2004 Bridgeway Capital added 504 loans, the SBA's economic development program to its portfolio, allowing Bridgeway to join with banks to lend to growing businesses for equipment or real estate acquisition and improvements. In addition to the 504 loan program, Bridgeway offers Growth Capital Loans, financing up to $500,000,000 for businesses that need to grow beyond their collateral base, and Entrepreneur Loans of up to $100,000 for emerging entrepreneurs. Loans for nonprofit organizations and 'green' loans for businesses interested in energy-efficiency projects are also offered. The average small business loan is $350,000.
