Founded in 1993, Chrysalis Ventures is a leading source of equity capital for young growth companies in the Midwest and South. Chrysalis invests primarily in early-stage and expansion-stage companies in healthcare services and technology. With headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky and offices in Cleveland, Houston, Pittsburgh, and Ann Arbor, Mich., Chrysalis has $400 million under management and has made investments in over 70 companies. Chrysalis rarely invests at the seed-stage and prefers to invest in companies that are already generating revenue in the $1 to $10 million range. The firm typically invests at least $2 million in the first institutional private equity financing in the form of a preferred security. Chrysalis will invest in later rounds of promising companies, up to a total of approximately $15 million in a single portfolio company. Chrysalis currently has investments in 20 states across the United States, but prefers to invest in the 'under-ventured' Midwest and South regions of the country. The firm rarely invests at the seed stage and prefers to invest in companies that are already generating at least $1 million in revenue.
