Columbus Ventures is a seed-stage venture capital firm that provides start-up financing to emerging enterprises. Columbus Ventures was founded in 2002 to assist entrepreneurs who have new ideas and approaches to solving complex technology and business problems. The firm invests $100,000 to $250,000, plus its time and expertise, in return for 15% to 30% equity (in the form of preferred stock). Columbus targets companies who have: at least two full-time executives who have put some of their own money into the company; a product or service which can be demonstrated (alpha) and marketed in six to nine months; and a business model that can reasonably demonstrate profitability in two to four years. Columbus Ventures invests in only a few select companies each year.
