Council Capital is a private equity firm with approximately $150 million of capital under management. The firm invests primarily in early-growth and expansion stage companies in healthcare services and healthcare IT that emphasize innovative ways to raise quality and lower costs. Council brings management and operating experience to its portfolio companies through the firm's CEO Council comprised of 18 former and current CEOs of major corporations and institutions. Members of the CEO Council are the lead investors in Council's fund and actively assist portfolio companies by providing executive management insight, serving as board members, and if needed, operating as interim CEOs or Chairmen. Council prefers companies that target rapidly growing markets able to exceed $1 billion in market size within five years. The firm typically invests $2 to $4 million in each portfolio company, spread across several financings. Areas of investment interest include Security, Storage, and Healthcare IT, with a particular focus on companies in the Southeast. Council targets companies with current revenues of $5 million to $50 million, generally up to $15 million in EBITDA (operating profit). Council, in partnership with Enhanced Capital Partners, formed Council & Enhanced Tennessee Fund (see profile) and was awarded $20 million by TNInvestco to invest in qualifying companies.
