Founded in 1996, DCM invests in technology companies in the Communications and Internet software/services sectors, and Cleantech sectors. DCM has more than $4 billion in capital under management and has built a worldwide portfolio of more than 400 technology companies. DCM invests primarily in early-stage domestic companies, though the firm does invest selectively in late-stage and international companies. DCM has made investments as small as $500K in very early stage companies, but the usual initial investment is $3 to $10 million, with an equal amount reserved for future rounds. DCM's total investment in any one company is generally up to $20 million. DCM also maintains offices in Beijing and Tokyo. In March of 2014, the firm closed DCM Fund VII, an early stage venture fund with $330 million in commitments. In July of 2016, the firm announced the close of its eighth flagship fund, DCM VIII, with $500 million in committed capital, to be invested in early stage companies across the United States, China and Japan.
