Dexter Enterprises, Inc. is a family office founded in 1996 to manage the Alfond family's investments, philanthropy and business affairs; and to administer the Foundation's charitable projects in Maine and other states. According to Forbes, the Alfond family is worth nearly $5 billion. In 1993, Warren Buffett bought Harold Alfond's Dexter Shoe Company for $433 million, paying in Berkshire Hathaway stock. Harold Alfond donated millions of dollars to universities and hospitals across the state of Maine before he died in 2007. Since 2007, the Foundation has awarded over $425 million in grants, primarily in Maine. Alfond left the bulk of his fortune to his three children -- Bill, Susan and Ted; as well as his nephew Peter Lunder. Bill and Ted are minority owners of the Boston Red Sox. Dexter Enterprises has built and managed a fourteen-company investment platform providing access to high quality investment funds world wide.
