Hawaii Technology Development Corporation is a state agency established by the Hawaii State Legislature in 1983 to facilitate the development and growth of Hawaii's commercial high technology industry. The State views high technology as an important driver in the diversification of Hawaii's economy and one that provides quality, high-paying jobs for Hawaii residents. HTDC provides an array of client services, facilities, and equipment for new and early stage technology companies. Services include: business and technology workshops; business reviews by trained management consultants; online tech & business resources; and subscription to electronic newsletters. Among many initiatives, the Corporation's Maui Research & Technology Center (MRTC) is a technology center and business incubator strategically located in Kihei, Maui, within the 415-acre Maui Research & Technology Park. Dedicated to supporting technology-oriented businesses, MRTC brings together a diversity of enterprises from industry niches as varied as astronomy and biotechnology. MRTC is home to startups, technology companies phasing in Maui operations, and compelling federal technology projects. The HSBIR metrics since HTDC's inception include $57 MM in Federal phase 1 funding, $10.1 MM in HSBIR phase 1 matching grants, $196 MM in Federal phase 2/3 funding, and $7.1 MM in HSBIR phase 2/3 match.
