Illinois Ventures is a seed and early-stage technology investment firm focused on research-derived companies in information technologies, physical sciences and life sciences, with a particular emphasis on those deriving from research conducted at the University of Illinois and other regional research institutions and federal laboratories. Current investments reflect targeted practice areas in energy, device physics, advanced materials, biotechnology, medical devices and instrumentation, homeland security, and software. Illinois Ventures currently invests up to $200,000 in seed-stage opportunities developed at the University of Illinois, often as the first or one of the first outside investors in a promising new technology-based startup. During the course of the past ten years Illinois Ventures has led or collaborated on the initial funding of over 87 new ventures spanning a broad spectrum of scientific and technological innovation across multiple domains.
