Imagine K12 is a leading startup accelerator that exclusively invests in educational technology to improve learning in kindergarten through high school. Imagine K12 runs a 3-month program for founders and hackers intent on changing the world. Immediately upon acceptance to the program, Imagine K12 invests $14k - $20k in each selected company, depending on the number of founders. Typically, solo founders receive $14k, pairs receive $17k, and companies with three or more founders receive $20k. In exchange for that funding and participation in the program the firm asks for equity in each company, ranging from 2 to 10% of the company's common stock. Imagine K12's Start Fund is a new fund that is supported by tech luminaries including Y Combinator founder Paul Graham, Yahoo! co-founder David Filo, Angela Filo, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner, NewSchools Venture Fund, and GSV Asset Management. Every company accepted to the Imagine K12 accelerator program will receive up to $20,000 from Imagine K12 and a convertible note for $80,000 from the Start Fund. Y Combinator has a standard deal -- investing $150k on a post-money safe in return for 7% of the company when the safe converts. The Imagine K12 / Y Combinator alumni network currently includes almost 200 edtech founders.
