JumpStart is a nationally recognized venture development organization that accelerates the progress of high potential, early-stage businesses to create a more prosperous future for Northeast Ohio. JumpStart, a non-profit organization, was formed in 2004 by a collaboration between NorTech (the Northeast Ohio Technology Coalition) and Case Western Reserve University. It was created to combine the efforts of four of the region's entrepreneurial service organizations to support the continued emergence of Northeast Ohio's innovative economy. Among several programs, JumpStart Ventures invests in and assists innovative, early-stage Northeast Ohio companies that have the potential to generate $30-$50 million in revenues in five to seven years. Early-stage investment from JumpStart starts at $250K and ranges up to a total of $600K. JumpStart is committed to investing in companies led by women and minority entrepreneurs, companies in varying stages of growth (though most are in the imagining or incubating stages and all must have less than $5 million in revenues), companies working in multiple industries, and companies located in varying counties within Northeast Ohio. Jumpstart has invested in more than 170 portfolio companies. These companies have leveraged the investments eight times over, raising an additional $167 million in follow-on risk capital. The Impact program has deployed more than $400,000 in grant dollars to graduates to date.
