K9 Ventures, L.P. is a venture fund that makes concept and seed-stage investments in technology companies. The fund will be deployed over a period of 3-4 years, with initial investment in the range of $250K and $750K, while reserving capital to participate in the follow-on round. K9 expects to be an active investor in portfolio companies and will typically make only 4-6 new investments per year. K9 focuses on concept-stage (sub $100k) and seed-stage (sub $1M) technology startups in the San Francisco Bay Area, which have the potential to be capital efficient and make successful acquisition exits. K9's Principal, Manu Kumar, was the Founder, President and CEO of SneakerLabs, a company which developed software and services for web-based customer interaction. After the successful acquisition of SneakerLabs (March 2000), Manu served as the Vice-President of Interactive Technologies for E.piphany. K9 targets companies that are 'hyper-local,' where the entire team is located in the SF Bay Area; no distributed teams, no overseas teams, and no companies that rely on 'outsourcing' to build their core technology.
