Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC) is a private, non-profit organization that manages statewide initiatives that are core to building Kentucky's knowledge based economy by supporting technology-based startup companies through talent and capital investments. These initiatives include The Kentucky Enterprise Fund, Rural Innovation Fund, Kentucky New Energy Ventures (KNEV) and The Innovation and Commercialization Center Network (ICC). The Kentucky Enterprise Fund is a seed stage venture-like fund focused on promoting and developing early stage technology companies in the Commonwealth. The Rural Innovation Fund is a seed stage, venture-like fund focused on promoting and developing early stage technology companies in the rural areas of Kentucky (all counties except Fayette and Jefferson). Both are funded through the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). KNEV supports the development and commercialization of alternative fuel and renewable energy products, processes, and services in the state. ICC is a statewide network of six regional urban offices and six rural offices throughout the Commonwealth focused on helping Kentucky entrepreneurs, scientists, and engineers perfect their business strategies to build successful high-tech businesses. The ICC is funded through the Kentucky Department of Innovation and Commercialization. KSTC provides one-time grants of $30,000 and equity investments of $250,000 to $750,000. The Student Fund provides seed funding to innovation-driven start-ups founded by Kentucky-based students. Over 6000 teachers have been served and over 155,000 students have been enrolled.
