Keshif Ventures is a seed-stage, private investment firm founded in 2012 and focused on investing in cloud, big data, and analytics with verticals ranging from cybersecurity to social media, marketing, and energy. Firm founder, Taner Halicioglu, was Facebook's first 'real' employee outside of the founders. He built out the entire initial hardware infrastructure at Facebook. Halicioglu is a lecturer at UC San Diego in the school's Computer Science and Engineering department. He recently donated $75 million to the school to create its Halicioglu Data Science Institute. The firm's goal is to foster the growth of the San Diego data science ecosystem through investments in early-stage teams focused on building infrastructure or enterprise solutions. Halicioglu also is a founding partner in Seed San Diego, a venture fund that supports tech startups. In 2015, he made a $2 million gift to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UCSD to enrich its computer science offerings.
