Founded in 1992, Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP) is one of the most experienced and successful private equity investment firms in the United States and has raised over $31 billion of capital since its formation. Prior to forming the firm, MDP's founders built a $2.6 billion management buyout and venture capital portfolio at First Chicago Corporation dating back to the early 1980s. MDP's principals manage six funds investing in management buyout and other private equity transactions across a broad spectrum of industries. MDP's objective is to invest in companies in partnership with outstanding management teams to achieve significant long-term appreciation in equity value. The firm generally seeks to invest $100 million to $600 million of equity capital in a single transaction. MDP focuses on several specific industry sectors: Basic Industries, Communications, Consumer, Business & Financial Services, Energy & Power, and Health Care. Madison Dearborn is investing its eighth fund, Madison Dearborn Capital Partners VIII, which has $5.0 billion in aggregate capital commitments. The MDP team consists of 44 investment professionals, all of whom are based in Chicago, Illinois. MDP's 21 Managing Directors have been at the firm for an average of 15 years, and many have worked together since the 1980s.
