The mission of the Maine Venture Fund (MVF) is to provide resources to attract, support, and help develop eligible small businesses with the potential for substantial growth and success that will contribute to the prosperity of Maine. The Maine Venture Fund is an investment fund that focuses exclusively on promising growth companies. The fund considers Maine-based companies in all stages of their life cycle and in almost all industry sectors that can demonstrate potential for significant growth and public benefit. The Fund has been actively investing in Maine companies since 1997, after its creation by an act of the Maine Legislature in 1995. Over $25 million has been invested in Maine companies from the Fund, which operates as a revolving, evergreen fund. Prospective companies must operate primarily in Maine, employ 50 or fewer people, or have gross sales of $5,000,000 or less within the past 12 months, and receive co-investment in an amount at least equal to the investment amount sought from the Maine Venture Fund. The initial check size is usually $100-300k, preferably in convertible preferred stock. MVF has additional capital available for continued support.
