Mayfield Fund is a venture capital and private equity firm specializing in incubation, seed, series A, early stage, later stage, growth stage, and mid market investments. Founded in 1969, Mayfield has invested in more than 550 companies, of which more than 120 have gone public and more than 225 have merged or were acquired. The firm has $3 billion under management and also makes direct investments in China and India. The firm does not invest in publicly traded companies and in companies that are not technology-based. Mayfield seeks to invest in technology companies with a focus on consumer, enterprise, energy tech, healthcare, communication service providers, and semiconductors chips and components sectors. Within the enterprise sector, Mayfield invests in online marketing and advertising, business application, infrastructure, software, and equipment companies. Within semiconductors chips and components sectors, Mayfield invests in communications and application-specific devices. Within energy tech sector, the firm focuses on energy efficiency, management, and cleantech opportunities. It also seeks investments in business services, digital media, engineering services, consumer Internet services, interactive entertainment, retail, power ancillary, media, networking components and systems, mobile communications, and business-to-business e-commerce. The firm seeks to invest in companies located across the U.S. with a focus in California as well as cross-border companies domiciled in Europe, India, and China. It also focuses on companies with substantial operations in India with a focus on technology, technology enabled services, consumer services, infrastructure ancillaries, healthcare services, and manufacturing opportunities. Mayfield also invests in early stage companies with substantial operations in China with a focus on Internet, semiconductor, wireless, new media opportunities, entertainment and advertising services, and e-commerce sectors. It typically makes initial investments between $1 and $3 million. Mayfield prefers to co-invest with other local investors outside California. Mayfield also seeks to be the first institutional investor in its Chinese investments. Mayfield has an additional office in Mumbai, India. The firm is currently investing Mayfield XIV, a $475 million fund focused on venture investments in the U.S.; and Mayfield India I, a $111 million fund focused on investments in India-based companies.
