NCT has been making investments in marketing, logistics and industry disruptive business models for over 20 years. These investments include businesses that have been in large and/or expanding markets, possessed a sustainable competitive advantage, have maintained above industry average margins, are located in the Midwest and are led by a strong entrepreneurial management team. In the spring of 2005, NCT recognized an opportunity created by the significant venture capital funding gap in Central Ohio. In order to capitalize on the shortfall of available capital, NCT started a pre-seed venture fund that focuses on early-stage technology investments based in Ohio. NCT received a grant from the State of Ohio's Validation Seed Fund Initiative Program in June 2006, and has made four investments since the inception of the validation fund. NCT Ventures, in conjunction with the Center for Entrepreneurship at Ohio State University, created the Ideas-To-Business Model in 2001. The model was created to provide an infrastructure for bringing an idea to market effectively through a series of well defined development phases.
