The Innovation Center provides valuable business incubation resources to fuel the economy in Athens, Ohio and surrounding regions. Created in 1983, the Ohio University Innovation Center was the first university-based business incubator in the State of Ohio and just the 12th in the United States. The current 36,000 square foot facility, which opened in 2003, is now home to 16 prospering member companies. The University's Technology Transfer Office works with entrepreneurial and established businesses, and focuses on three broad strategic areas: World Health and Quality of Life--Discovery and development of new therapies, Electronic medical records, Disease management programs, New medical devices, Disease biomarkers, Osteopathic medicine, Improved healthcare delivery; Resource Sustainability- Renewable energy, Green technology, Fuel cells, Hydrogen fuels, Algae fuels and technology; and Societal, Cultural and Logistics--Flight and air technology. The firm has created 335 jobs, generated $22.8M in employee compensation, and generated $78M in economic output.
