Origin Ventures is a venture capital firm investing in early-stage companies. In February 2005 the firm closed on its current fund, Origin Ventures II, LP. This followed the successful completion of Origin's first fund, Origin Ventures, LLC, which yielded an internal rate of return to its investors in excess of 33% from its inception in 1999 through its completion in 2004. Origin's typical investment size is $500,000 to $5,000,000, but can vary depending on the opportunity. The types of companies Origin seeks to work with are front-end e-commerce enterprises, medical device companies, biotechnology ventures, and other industries where the firm can add value. Origin's geographic focus is the Midwest and the firm's target is the greater Chicagoland area. Origin is specifically interested in furthering the development of technologies discovered at the University of Illinois and other similar institutions.
