Pine Brook Partners is a New York-based private equity firm established in 2006 by a team of experienced private equity professionals led by Howard Newman, former Vice Chairman of Warburg Pincus, to make business building and growth capital investments, primarily in the energy and financial services sectors. Pine Brook acts as a lead or control investor in growth equity opportunities in newly formed or established business to finance internal growth, acquisitions and the development of new products or projects. The firm's average equity capital commitment is $100 million to $200 million. Pine Brook typically finances its businesses with equity rather than debt, primarily using a 'Line of Equity' funding structure. The Line of Equity funding structure recognizes that building businesses is a multi-year process and therefore requires equity investments over time. Pine Brook, together with its limited partner co-investors, has invested and committed to invest approximately $5.5 billion in portfolio companies.
