Pittsburgh Equity Partners (PEP) is a venture capital firm specializing in seed and early-stage information technology and life sciences investments primarily in Western Pennsylvania. A group of organizations including the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Innovation Works, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh collectively created a competition to select a seasoned manager to form a new early-stage venture fund. The principals of PEP won this competition, and Pittsburgh Equity Partners was launched with a $1.5 million investment from the competition sponsors. The Fund will focus on early-stage companies with a fully developed product that are involved in the technology industry, including information technology, advanced manufacturing technology, life sciences technology, nanotechnology, material sciences, internet, media, medical technology, life sciences, and advanced software, and companies that are involved in non-technology and services industries. The Fund will use commercially reasonable efforts to make investments in technology and life sciences companies located in southwestern Pennsylvania. PEP manages a microcap fund, investing up to $500,000 per round.
