Playground Global is a venture fund and design studio that provides resources, mentorship and funding for startups making hardware devices. The firm was founded in 2015 by Andy Rubin, Peter Barrett, Matt Hershenson and Bruce Leak. Playground offers startups support with engineering, distribution, manufacturing and financing in exchange for equity. The company's investment fund has raised $300 million from its limited partners including Google, HP, Foxconn, Redpoint Ventures, Seagate Technology and Tencent, among others. The firm has over $800 million to invest in extraordinary teams. The firm announced (December 2023) that it raised $410 million in capital for its third fund. Fund III will focus on Seed and Series A companies with initial investments ranging from $1 million to $20 million across next-gen computing, logistics, automation, infrastructure, decarbonization, and engineered biology.
