The roots of RAJ Capital are based in the swimwear industry when the firm was formed by brother and sister duo Alex Bhathal and Lisa Bhathal Merage in 2006. The first investment of RAJ Capital was the acquisition, along with Swander Pace Capital and Goldman Sachs, of the family business RAJ Swim founded by their parents in 1967. RAJ Swim and its direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform, SwimSpot, has grown over the decades to become the industry's leading house of fashion. Building from the continued success of their ventures in apparel and real estate development, the duo began making direct and indirect investments in companies that fit their criteria. The common theme to RAJ Capital investments has been a focus on backing entrepreneurs that can identify and optimize transformative change opportunities in consumer products, sports, and real estate. In May of 2013, the Bhathal family acquired the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise as principal co-owners as part of the Vivek Ranadive-led ownership group. Along with the Kings franchise, the family owns the Golden 1 Center sports arena, as well as Downtown Commons entertainment and sports district and other subsidiaries. RAJ Capital launched RevOZ Capital as a dedicated platform for investing in Opportunity Zones.
