The Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance (SARTA) is a tech-focused 501(c)(3) corporation established in 2001 to support entrepreneurial programs, companies and technology investment throughout Butte, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties. The organization is based on the public-private partnership founded by three regional groups: Golden State Capital Network, Sacramento Metro Chamber, and UC Davis INNOVATIONACCESS. Among several programs, the group operates CleanStart (see profile), an initiative designed to accelerate the development of clean energy technology ventures within the Greater Sacramento Region; MedStart, a regional economic development collaborative, that envisions a thriving medical device and medical technology industry in the Sacramento region and is a catalyst in making that happen; VentureStart, which supports technology entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises through advice, mentorships and education; Leadership Series, a series of seminars designed to provide local technology, non technology companies and emerging entrepreneurs with strategic workforce development training; Sacramento Venture Lab, a unique university-private industry technology development center that serves as a catalyst to accelerate the growth of companies based on innovative technologies. The lab brings together business incubation services and linkage to resources of Sacramento State University and University of California, Davis. The lab focuses particular emphasis on growing clean technology and medical technology firms and related jobs in the Sacramento region; AgStart, SARTA's newest industry-cluster-focused program, promoting innovative sustainable agricultural technology and supporting companies that are bringing those products to market; and TechStart, which supports companies in areas like mobile apps, video games, social networks, software platforms, tech hardware & equipment, IT services & consulting, between others.
