Formed in early 2004, Sage Capital is a St. Louis based private equity firm providing equity and mezzanine capital to lower middle market businesses in North America. The firm is particularly active between the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains. The firm targets companies with EBITDA typically between $2 million and $7 million. The preferred investment amount is $2 - $15 million per transaction. Sage targets established businesses; no start-ups. Sage considers opportunities involving acquisitions, minority investments, growth capital, and mezzanine capital. Indicative areas of interest: Differentiated manufacturers (niche markets, unique products or processes); Branded industrial or consumer products; Recurring-revenue service businesses; Professional services; and High-value distribution businesses. Areas of limited appeal include: Biotech, Manufacturers of commodity products, Government contractors, Construction services, Real estate, and Gaming. While not a requirement, the firm has a preference for investments that have the potential to last a long time i.e. more than 10 years.
