Founded in 1963, the Science Center is the oldest and largest urban research park in the United States. The Center supports technology commercialization and technology-based economic development on our campus and in the Greater Philadelphia region. The Center's 31 nonprofit shareholders include many of the distinguished colleges, universities, hospitals, and research institutions located throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The Center provides lab and office space for start-up, growing and established companies, and offers business incubation, support services and programming for entrepreneurs and start-up companies. Located within a designated Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) and Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ), residents of the Science Center can benefit from these state programs offering significant tax advantages to growing companies. The incubator serves as a home to several investment organizations such as: BioAdvance, Robin Hood Ventures, DreamIt Ventures, and Meidlinger Partners. The Science Center's QED Program is a multi-institutional proof-of-concept program that provides business development support for academic researchers developing early-stage life science technologies with high commercial potential. The key goal is to retire the business risk in these early-stage projects, increasing their attractiveness to follow-on investment by established life science companies and private investors. The Science Center offers 13 programs to help commercialize, convene and cultivate.
