Established in 1996 as one of the first corporate venture funds in the oil and gas industry, Shell Ventures is at the forefront of changes and aims to accelerate the energy and mobility transformation by investing in companies that lower emissions, electrify our energy system, help us gain data-based insights and provide innovative consumer solutions. Shell Ventures works with startups and companies from their early stages to their scale and growth phases. The firm make minority investments that help to develop new technologies and disruptive business models that work to accelerate the energy and mobility transformation. The firm's investment focus is a mix of power, mobility, emission management, resources and digital. Shell's typical initial investment is $2-5M, with a total of $15-22M over the lifecycle of an investment. Shell and Greentown Labs have collaborated closely since 2013. As an integral partner to Greentown, Shell has run three Greentown Go partnerships accelerator programs, served as a founding partner of Greentown’s headquarters and Houston location.
