Founded in 2001, Shepherd Ventures is a venture capital fund that focuses on first and later stage investments. Shepherd Ventures chooses first stage companies with products incorporating disruptive technology that are ready for commercial release. Investments in these companies may be part of the first or second round of institutional capital. Seed stage opportunities will generally not be considered. Desirable later-stage companies have received prior venture capital, or achieved growth and operational maturity without venture funding, and have profitable products, brand identity, market traction, and satisfied customers. Shepherd Ventures has a geographic preference for companies located in Southern California and the Southwest, particularly San Diego. Shepherd currently seeks new investment opportunities in the fields of Information Technology (Software, Enterprise Applications, Wireless & Mobile Computing, Networking, Communications Infrastructure) and Life Sciences (Medical Devices, Biotherapeutics, Specialty Diagnostics, Bioinformatics, Healthcare IT).
