Created in 1997, The Slater Technology Fund focuses on the support of entrepreneurs, providing seed stage capital to companies committed to basing and building technology-based businesses in Rhode Island. Slater typically invests at the inception stage in the development of a new venture, often based upon ideas and technologies originating in academic institutions, government research laboratories or commercial enterprises located within the region. Slater provides up to $3 million annually in seed funding for local technology-based ventures in life sciences and information technology. The Fund has invested $35.7 million in state funds into over 110 technology companies that have raised more than $690mm in private, VC and government investments. Slater also provides incubator space at Richmond Square in Providence. Slater has 33 acquisitions to date.
