Southern Cross Venture Partners was launched in 2006 by veteran venture capitalists that have managed and operated companies themselves. Based in Australia and New Zealand, Southern Cross currently has three funds under management; the $170 million Southern Cross Fund No. 1, the $40 million Southern Cross IIF Fund and the $120 million Southern Cross Renewable Energy (REVC) Fund. Southern Cross assists early stage technology companies that demonstrate the potential for exceptional growth and market leadership. Southern Cross prefers to act as lead or co-lead in the early stages. The firm does not have a minimum investment amount, however, a typical initial investment will be $2 million to $10 million with an ability to invest more money in later rounds. Key areas of experience and focus include: Software systems and services, Telecommunications, Advanced materials, Semi-conductors and electronics, Digital media and Internet applications, Security, Nanotechnology, Environmental science, Energy, Mining technologies, Water technologies, and Innovation in agriculture. The firm recently announced the launch of the Southern Cross Renewable Energy Fund, a $200 million, 13-year co-investment arrangement by the Australian Government, Southern Cross Venture Partners (SXVP), Softbank China Venture Capital (SBCVC) and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The aim of the Southern Cross Renewable Energy Fund is to realize significant financial returns for its investors by making selected investments in Australian renewable energy companies.
