Swan Ventures was founded in 2000 primarily to benefit Silicon Valley physicians. The firm's first fund, Swan Ventures, LP, invested in a diversified portfolio of venture funds, with an emphasis on healthcare and biotechnology. After a successful first fund, Swan Ventures expanded its limited partner base and altered its objectives. The firm's second fund, which closed in June 2006, is intended to promote philanthropy with the General Partner donating a portion of its proceeds to nonprofits, primarily those involved in women's and children's health. Swan Ventures only invests in other funds, and does not invest directly in start-up companies.
