TIFF was formed in 1991 as a network of foundations that founded a cooperative-style investment organization, whose structure and eligibility criteria have evolved over time but whose essential mission has not. TIFF Advisory Services is a regulated investment adviser that directly and through its affiliates manages a variety of investment programs, including an alternative investments program comprising absolute return-oriented strategies and private investments such as venture capital, buyouts, real estate, and resources. These programs are available to foundations, endowments, other 501(c)(3) organizations, and certain other non-profits. Prospective members must also meet additional, typically asset-based, eligibility criteria. As of March 31, 2014, TIFF served nearly 800 non-profit members who entrust over $11.0 billion in assets. TIFF has 30 years of experience and serves as an OCIO for nonprofits across the U.S.
