The Founder Institute is a technology pre-seed incubator founded in 2009 by serial entrepreneur Adeo Ressi. Based in Silicon Valley and with chapters across 33 countries, the Founder Institute has helped launch over 1,129 companies in 5 years. Estimated portfolio value is $30 billion. The program identifies high-potential entrepreneurs using predictive social science testing, and then guides them through weekly company-building sessions featuring a network of over 700 CEO Mentors. A four-month program with a unique shared-equity structure, Founder Institute provides weekly meetings with mentor CEOs on topics designed to improve company-building. Unlike incubators such as TechStars or Y-Combinator, which take small equity stakes in companies that participate, Founder Institute divvies up equity among all its participants. Each company that participates in the Founder Institute will contribute 3.5 percent in stock warrants into an equity pool that is shared among all the participants and mentors. The Founder Institute does not provide office space and to date has graduated 415 companies in 21 cities worldwide.
