The Hive works with entrepreneurs to create companies that use data to innovate products and gain advantage in a competitive market. The Hive partners with entrepreneurs at early stages, often starting at the concept stage. The Hive invests $1.5M-$2M in the company at the seed stage. In the initial stage the firm engages with entrepreneurs to help them refine their product concept. When it is a viable company The Hive provides seed financing and actively works with the entrepreneurs for 9-15 months at the end of which the company will have a complete team, an advanced prototype, market validation, and a business plan. Total financing may reach $3M. Target sectors include AdTech, Multi-Channel Marketing, eCommerce, CRM, Security, and Fraud Detection. The Hive announced March of 2015 the closing of its second fund (The Hive II), with $22 million in capital commitments. The Hive also runs a Big Data Think Tank, a community of over 11,000 entrepreneurs, business professionals and technologists who gather for semiweekly forum events to share thought leadership, knowledge and trends in Big Data. The Hive announced (April 2018) the closing of its third fund (The Hive III), with $26.5M in capital commitments.
