The Office for Research Partnerships and Commercialization (ORPC) was founded in November 2000 to develop and manage the intellectual property portfolio of the University of New Hampshire. The mission of the ORPC is to Build research partnerships that result in commercialization and economic development; Serve as the focal point for advocacy and support of UNH's intellectual property; Provide faculty and staff with information on, and assistance with, intellectual property protection by patent, copyright, or other means; Facilitate transfer of University research results to the public by bringing scientists and the business community together in relationships of mutual advantage; and focus statewide through the New Hampshire Innovation Research Center (a matching grant program funded by the NH Legislature). ORPC is partnered with the Idea Greenhouse, a combined co-working space, event center and collaborative creative environment for budding university entrepreneurs, located in downtown Durham. The facility offers office space, cube and desk space, 'drop in' cafe-style workspace, and rooms for meetings and events. The Idea Greenhouse launched in 2011. The university’s research base of over $100 million creates positive institutional and social change and helps cement UNH as a world-class research institution and economic engine.
