Thrive Capital is a venture capital investment firm focused on media and internet investments. Joshua Kushner is the founder and Managing Partner of Thrive. Since its founding, Thrive has raised more than $400 million from institutional investors, including Princeton University, Wellcome Trust, and Hall Capital. Thrive Capital Partners IV was closed in October of 2014 with $250M. In September 2012, Kushner raised $150 million for Thrive III $150. Previous funds included the $40 million Thrive II, which was raised in late 2011. According to a profile in Forbes, Thrive was one of three firms (joining Sequoia Capital and Greylock Partners) to invest in Instagram's $50 million Series B round at a valuation of $500 million. Forbes wrote that after Instagram sold to Facebook, 'Thrive had doubled its money in 72 hours.' Hot Potato, a social-networking site, was purchased by Facebook in 2010 for $10 million in cash. Group-texting app GroupMe was sold to Skype in 2011 for more than $50 million.
