Opened in May 2009, the Venture Development Center incubates promising, early stage technology and life science companies in an 18,000 sq. ft. facility. Based in Boston on the campus of the University of Massachusetts, the incubator's companies come from all around the region. Venture Development Center also supplies companies with full service, ready-to-use desks, benches, offices and laboratories available on a month to month basis. When an incubator startup is close to being fundable, VDC's entrepreneur in residence arranges one-to-one meetings with angel and venture investors to get their feedback, and prepare them for an eventual funding pitch. Recently, Sigma Venture Partners, Prism Ventures, North Bridge, and CommonAngels have met one-to-one with the companies. Industry focus for companies located at the VDC include: Life science therapeutics, diagnostics and instruments; information technology for health, education and business. Startups launching at the VDC have a 93% fundraising success rate, averaging $11,219,687.
