Vestar was founded by seven principals of The First Boston Corporation's Management Buyout Group. Vestar specializes in management buyouts and growth capital investments, investing in companies with valuations in the $100 million to $1.0 billion range. Vestar's investment team is organized into five broad groups, each focused on a particular sector of the economy and its products and services: Consumer, Diversified Industries, Healthcare, Financial, and Media & Communications. Vestar is now working from its fifth investment fund, managing a committed equity pool of $3.65 billion, with total assets under management of $7 billion. The firm's target equity investment is $50 million to $150 million. The firm can invest up to $700 million in a single transaction. Since Vestar's founding in 1988, the group has completed 70 investments in companies with a total value of approximately $30 billion. The firm has invested nearly $4 billion into founder- and family-owned companies.
