The West Health Investment Fund is the first investment fund with the mission to lower health care costs for the public by providing risk capital for cutting-edge health care technologies and services. Launched by entrepreneurs and philanthropists Gary and Mary West, the $100 million fund aims to spur an entirely new ecosystem for health care innovation that lowers health care costs. The West Health Investment Fund targets primarily early stage opportunities with a strong preference for pre-commercial and early commercial companies. The Fund's areas of interest include health care technologies, data analytics, technology-enabled services, cost transparency, and interoperability. Located in La Jolla on the same campus as the West Health Institute, the approximately 10,000 square foot West Health Incubator provides infrastructure at the facility, strategic guidance and access to an extensive network of key partners, allowing for the transfer to industry of research technologies developed at the Institute and elsewhere. Established in 2006 by Gary and Mary West, the Gary and Mary West Foundation is proud to be one of only six private foundations, out of 105,000 in the United States, solely focused on addressing the needs of vulnerable seniors. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded 562 grants totaling more than $223 million for programs that share the goals of lowering the cost of healthcare.
