The bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park began in 1989 as two trailers on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and is now a 71 acre community engaged in research, entrepreneurship, and economic development. The Park provides Incubator and Accelerator programs to support early stage technology and bioscience companies. Incubator programs include the Life-science and Technology Incubator, the Cyber Incubator, Cync Program, and the Clean Energy Incubator. The Life-science and Technology Incubator offers high-potential, early-stage companies space, business advisory services, and access to the resources and capital that enable companies to commercialize their technologies and succeed in the marketplace. The Cyber Incubator@bwtech is a unique, innovative business incubation program that delivers business and technical support to early stage companies providing cybersecurity-related products and services. The Clean Energy Incubator is a joint venture with the Maryland Clean Energy Center and provides 18,000 square feet of office and wet lab space. The Northrop Grumman Cync Program is a unique partnership between Northrop Grumman and the Advantage Incubator@bwtech, with an eye towards commercializing technology to protect the nation from a growing range of cyber threats. bwtech@UMBC’s North and South campuses house 131 companies and organizations. Combined, they employ nearly 1,900 people and have generated $700M in labor income and business sales.
