Formerly known as Acer Ventures, iD SoftCapital Group is a group established by Acer founder Stan Shih and former Acer senior management to offer consulting services, and asset and venture fund management. iD Ventures America's mission is to facilitate the intellectual development of the New Economy through venture investing. iD Ventures America has been active in the venture community since 1998 with a current total of $200 million under management including $130 million in active investments through its latest funds: iD6 Fund established in 2005; iD8 Fund established in 2008; and the most recent fund, iD5 Annex Fund. iD Ventures America currently focuses on the following areas: new innovations and services for consumer electronics and multimedia applications; inventions and enhancements of ubiquitous Wireless technologies and applications; and critical components and technologies to build and support autonomous and intelligent systems. These funds are invested by Acer and other private investors. The firm's former funds, comprised of $300 million, have been fully invested into North America and Asia based companies: The Acer Technology Venture Fund and IP Fund One. Although iD has selectively participated in expansion rounds, the firm mostly invests in early-stage companies with investment amounts ranging from $500,000 to $3,000,000. The majority of investments are seed, first round, and second round venture capital financing. iD invests in start-ups in the U.S. and Canada that look to Greater China and Asia as part of their long-term growth strategy. The fund's current portfolio companies are located primarily in Silicon Valley and the Boston area.
