BCM Technologies (BCMT) was formed in 1983 as an independent corporation by Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to promote the commercialization of faculty inventions through the licensing of technology and the formation of new companies. BCMT is actively involved in the early stages of the company's development as it identifies and hires the initial management team through its network of seasoned start-up executives, executive recruiters and other professionals. BCMT prefers to lead seed and first rounds and continues to co-invest in later rounds. Since its formation, the firm has launched over 41 companies. Significant successes in past BCMT portfolio companies include Lexicon Genetics (LEXG), GeneMedicine (VLTS), ForeFront Group (now Smart Force), Genosys (now Sigma-Aldrich) and Zonagen (ZONA).
