Founded in 1987, High Tech Rochester (HTR) is a nonprofit organization that aims to be a catalyst for entrepreneurship and innovation-based economic development. HTR provides a suite of services, including technology commercialization for very-early-stage opportunities, business incubation for high-growth-potential startups, and growth services for existing manufacturing companies. HTR manages the Rochester BioVenture Center, the first technology incubator in the region with wet lab facilities to promote the growth of early-stage life science companies. HTR's LaunchPad provides support for up to ten start-up companies or teams, providing one year of advisory services and access to HTR's incubation facilities, including an initial 12-week program. Other programs include the HTR Batting Cage, a 90-min presentation practice arena for entrepreneurs, and the Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest. NEXUS-NY is another initiative of HTR where funding and mentoring is provided to early-stage clean energy tech companies. HTR is part of the national Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) network of manufacturing advisors, sponsored in part, by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and locally by New York State's Empire State Development/NYSTAR Division.
